A Ceweb.br project developed by Soyuz

The collaborative research conducted by Soyuz and Ceweb.br has reached a significant conclusion: using the EPUB3 format in conjunction with the xAPI educational data connection standard shows remarkable potential in the educational context. The results demonstrated that this combination can provide a powerful and efficient tool to promote learning and student engagement. By adopting EPUB3, a versatile and enriched digital content format, along with xAPI, which allows tracking and analysing student interactions and performance, it is possible to create more dynamic, personalized, and interactive learning environments.

This innovative approach provides greater flexibility in the presentation and distribution of educational materials and enables the collection of valuable data on students’ progress. With the detailed analysis provided by xAPI, educators can identify learning patterns, tailor teaching to individual needs, and implement personalized interventions. Thus, the research was conducted by Soyuz in partnership with Ceweb.br highlights the potential of EPUB3 and xAPI as a powerful technological combination to enhance the quality and effectiveness of education.

Connection to a data center

Through the xAPI protocol, EduPUB has the capability to exchange data synchronously or asynchronously using an educational data center called Learning Record Store (LRS).

The LRS plays a crucial role in the xAPI ecosystem, being responsible for receiving, storing, and providing xAPI statements. All other tools that send or retrieve data about learning activities interact with the LRS, which functions as the central storage hub.

The xAPI, also known as Experience API, is a technological specification for learning that enables the collection of data about a wide range of experiences that a person has, both online and offline.

Digital Accessibility as a focus

The connected digital book was developed with universal accessibility in mind, following international guidelines. It incorporates features and functionalities that ensure an inclusive and barrier-free reading experience.

By strictly adhering to accessibility guidelines, the connected digital book becomes a valuable tool to enable people with disabilities to fully enjoy the content, providing options for contrast, screen reader support, text resizing, and simplified navigation. The inclusion of these practices reflects the commitment to offer a truly universal and accessible reading experience for all users.

We won the World Summit Awards Brazil 2022

The adopted solution was developed based on the open web platform, using technologies such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript. The ePub format was built following the fundamental standards of these technologies, and the platform generates data in JSON format, enabling its reuse in other applications. The initial proposal is on the W3c Brazil GitHub.
